ADA Signs With Braille in Aiken, SC

The Aiken Sign Co. makes ADA signs in Aiken with tactile lettering and Grade 2 braille, made to the ADA standard for offices, clinics and commercial buildings. You get room signs every visitor can use, designed to look like part of your space and installed by our crew.

Room Signs Every Visitor Can Read by Sight or Touch

ADA signs in Aiken are a small job that says a lot about a building. We design and produce braille signage, tactile lettering and room identification signs for offices, clinics and commercial buildings, then install them where they belong. Your architect or code office confirms what each space needs, and we make the signs to the ADA standard from that list.

This is for building managers, practice owners and contractors finishing a fit-out. These signs come in sets, so they can carry your colors and sit comfortably alongside your interior signs and hallway wayfinding. Order them together and the whole building can share one look.

What Goes Into a Sign Made to the ADA Standard

Section 703 of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design gets specific, and so do we:

  • Raised characters stand at least 1/32 inch above the background and run 5/8 inch to 2 inches tall.
  • Braille is contracted, also called Grade 2.
  • Tactile height puts the baseline of the lowest character at least 48 inches above the finish floor and the highest no more than 60 inches.
  • Door placement is the latch side of a single door, or the right side of double doors, with an 18 by 18 inch clear floor space outside the door swing.
  • Visual characters have a non-glare finish, light on dark or dark on light, and sit at least 40 inches above the floor or ground.
  • Stroke width of the uppercase I runs 10% to 30% of the character height.

Room identification signs commonly need these features. For the plain-English version with more detail, read our ADA sign requirements guide.

From Room List to Finished Hallway

  1. Start with the list. You or your architect give us the rooms and what each space needs. No list yet? We can begin with a walk of the building.
  2. We measure on-site. We check the doors, the walls and the mounting spots in person.
  3. You review the proof. Room names, numbers, lettering and braille are checked carefully before anything goes into production. A room name is easy to change on a proof, so this is the step to take your time on.
  4. We build and install. Our crew mounts each sign level and secure at the height and side the standard sets out.

A Quote That Follows Your Room Count

Your quote is free, with no obligation. The price mostly follows how many signs you need, how many different room names are on the list, the size and the material. A handful of office signs is a small order, and a whole building takes more planning, so we work from your actual count. For planning numbers across sign types, see what signs cost around here.

Made for Buildings on Both Sides of the River

The ADA Standards are federal, so we work from the same Section 703 at a clinic in Aiken, an office in North Augusta or a commercial building in Augusta. Local offices can still have a say on a project, so your architect or code office stays the final word on what your building needs. Practices can see the whole picture on our page for medical and dental office signs, which pairs room signs with the rest of the set.

Common questions

Do you make ADA signs with braille?
Yes. We design and produce braille signage, tactile lettering and room identification signs, made to the ADA standard.
Which rooms in my building need ADA signs?
Your architect or code office confirms what each space needs. Room identification signs commonly need tactile lettering and braille, and once you have the list we can build to it.
What kind of braille do you use?
Contracted braille, also called Grade 2, which is what the ADA standard calls for.
How high should an ADA sign be mounted?
The standard puts the baseline of the lowest tactile character at least 48 inches above the finish floor and the highest no more than 60 inches. Our ADA sign requirements guide walks through the details.
Can ADA signs match the rest of my office?
Yes, within what the standard allows. Characters need a non-glare finish with light on dark or dark on light, and we work your colors and logo look into the design around that.
